Roger Federer (sportswallpapers.blogspot.com) |
I was assigned by my English teacher to research about this wonderful athlete and I found some biographical information in www.lycos.com I hope you enjoy my research as much as I did. "Roger Federer was born in Basel, to Swiss-German Robert Federer and South African Lynette Federer in August 8,1981. He grew up in suburban Munchestein. At the age of six, Federer started playing tennis. He began participating in group lessons at the age of nine and began weekly private coaching when he was ten years old." He was inspired in three important men: Boris Becker, Stefan Edberg and Marcelo Rios; He has cited them as idols.
"Federer has a versaltile all-court playing style and can hit all of the fundamental shots with a high degree of difficulty." He is a great volleyer and an excellent baseliner. He has exceptional speed, fluidity and force of his forehand motion as "a great liquid whip". His class is remarkable in his personality. Fans say that he is always calm and controlled, you never see him upset, and most importantly, he is a real gentleman.
Roger Federer also helps those in need. He supports two charities; The first one is the Humpty Dumpty Foundation (Australian children's charity which raises money for medical equipment for children´s hospitals.) and the second is the Roger Federer foundation (Supporting education, sports and leisure activities in places with little or no funding at all).
I consider Roger Federer my hero because he has made a footprint in society and in our souls. He has taught us many lessons, and for what he has done I am sure he will go down in history. The charities that he supports have helped people to reach their goals and get a chance at better lives. His story is so captivating it draws millions of people (including me) in and somehow gives us some meaning. He has taught us that there may be dry spells in our lives; but if we are already complete as sportsmen or artists or whatever it may be, nothing can take away our ability to compose a masterpiece again and again.
