Robyn Rihanna Fenty

Robyn Rihanna Fenty, now known as Rihanna, was born in St. Michael, Barbados on February 20 1988 to Ronald and Monica Fenty. She has two younger brothers named Rorrey and Rajad.

During her school years Rihanna attended Charles F. Broome Memorial School, a preliminary school in Barbados. When she moved on to one of Barbados' older secondary schools, where she formed a singing trio with her classmates. In 2004 she won the Miss Combermere Beauty Pageant and performed in the Colours of Combermere School Show, singing Mariah Carey’s ‘’ Hero’’.

At the age of fifteen, Rihanna caught her big break when one of her friends introduced her to Evan Rogers, a big time songwriter, who was on vacation with his wife in Barbados.

Rogers, along with his partner, Carl Sturkan, helped Rihanna record material in the US, which was sent to various recording companies. One copy of Rihanna’s work was sent to Jay-Z, an American pop/ hip-hop singer who eventually sent her to Def Jam Records, a popular record company. Rihanna’s debut album was entitled ‘’Music of the Sun’’ and was released in August 2005. Unlike many artists Rihanna wrote half of it herself.

The first singles released from the album was the track’’ Pon De Replay’’, which was placed at number 2 on both the U.S. Billboards Hot 100 and the UK Singles Chart due to considerable airplay. Although it turned out to be a great success, even greater success was about to come.

The second single that was released was ‘’If it’s Lovin’ that You Want was not as great a success. It placed 36 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 and 11 in the UK. But the Album was in the top ten in both Canada and the US, and in the top forty in the UK.

In total Rihanna has 11 number one hits on the US Billboard and the UK chart. Rihanna is a hard working person who encourages others to fight for their rights and she donates money to charity and auctions.
