Seng Rin & Sophal Heng

Usually a hero is someone who has done something big in the world. If someone is popular or famous it does not mean that they can be a hero without doing something special. However, it is much harder to be an ordinary hero. Most people will never be famous, but they can still be a hero for you. My Aunt Sophal and Uncle Seng are people who are heroes because of their support for their family, their hard work and friendship to all Cambodian people in Canada.

My aunt and uncle are always at work. They work seven days a week and ten hours a day. They both always do the best work they can do. They work in a car factory, so they have to stand up every day and work a lot of overtime. They work long hours every day because they want to buy things for us or give us money when we need it. Even though they work a lot, they still make time to learn new things. They spend their spare time improving their English. My Uncle Seng and Aunt Sophal work very hard to provide for their family.

They are also truly good friends. They do their best to be there when people need help. When other Cambodian people need help because their English is not good, my uncle helps them to read important papers and goes with them when they need someone to translate. Even though they work all the time, they still help their friends.

They not only support our family financially, but also spiritually. They work so hard for the family because they want us to have everything that they never had before, and they do everything because of us. They always look for the best thing for the family. Even though they don’t really have time to spend with us, they always take every spare minute to teach us what is good to learn and what is not good to do.

They both have made a big difference in my life and my sister’s life. My uncle and aunt have done a lot of things for my sister and me. They work so hard because they think of us. They brought us here to Canada and they help my family back home in Cambodia. They both got laid off last summer, but because of us my uncle had to go to find a job to support the family. This means a lot to us. They have changed our life from difficult to easy. Also they treat us like daughters. They love us and take care of us like they do their own sons. I think my sister and I are the most lucky people to have an uncle and aunt who treat us like their own children and do everything for us. Seng and Sophal are heroes. They are not popular or rich people, but they still make the world a better place, even if they are just normal people or if it is just in small ways. There are many kinds of heroes, some who have changed the world and some, like Seng and Sophal, who work so hard to make a difference in whatever way they can.
