Is it necessary for people to be famous to be heroes? Do they have to have capes or fly? Can they be ordinary people like you and me? I believe so. Robert M. Carter III is my hero. He works hard at his job. He is caring and loving. He is fun and enjoys playing pranks. He is my grandfather.
Robert Mercer Carter III was born in Saginaw, Michigan. He was the youngest child of three children. He had an older sister and older brother. Growing up, they lived on the family-owned Cornwell Ranch outside of Clare, Michigan. The school he went to was only one mile down the road and is on the ranch property. During school, he took band until he got kicked out. After that, he taught himself how to play the trumpet. He attended high school in Clare, Michigan. Although he completed elementary and high school, he did not go to college.
When Robert was 19, he was married to his wife, Rochelle. They had a child, Robbi Carter. They were to have 3 more children in their marriage, Lori, Scott, and Jeff. When the children grew up, they produced 7 grandchildren; Christy, Mary, Paige (that's me), Jessica, Katie, Bryce, and Cole. Robert and Rochelle are loving and caring towards all their family.

When Robert was twenty-three years old, he became a stunt pilot. He was known as "Bobby the The Flying Cowboy." "Bobby the The Flying Cowboy" was known all around the Northeast as a great stunt pilot. He knew people such as the Blue Angels. He also ate with one of the Apollo crew members. He earned one of fewer than 50 licenses to fly however low he desired. This license was given to him for a trick he invented. He was a wonderful pilot that loved his flying. When he was thirty-three, he was practicing his flying at the ranch when he got into a crash. He had to have his leg stiffened, and there was much more that was wrong. The family was just thankful he survived. He fought for his life and lived. He is amazing!
All through his life, Robert worked on the family ranch. He is the hardest worker I have ever met. Even though he has a disability, he goes on with life. He does not let that stop him. The work he does is just as hard or harder than any other job. His family and friends do not treat him any differently than anybody else. He is my grandfather. He is a husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and a friend. He is a hero.
