Julia Roberts

A hero can be defined in many different aspects depending on a person’s personal opinion. What I consider a hero is someone who is determined, successful, and talented. I don’t believe they have to save lives like Hercules or Batman but they can be a hero for accomplishing their goals, such as my hero, Julia Roberts.

Julia Roberts is known as one of the best actresses. She was born on October 2nd, 1967 in Smyrna, Georgia. Julia as a child originally wanted to be a veterinarian but later studied Journalism.

When her brother Eric achieved some success in Hollywood, Julia decided to try acting. Her first break came in 1998 when she appeared in two youth-oriented movies: Mystic Pizza and Satisfaction. The movies introduced her to a new audience who instantly fell in love with this Pretty Woman.

Julia’s biggest success was in the signature movie Pretty Woman for which Julia got an Oscar Nomination and also won the People's Choice Award for favorite actress. Even though Julia spent the next few years either starring in serious movies or playing fantasy roles like Tinker Bell, movie audiences had always loved Julia best in romantic comedies.

With My Best Friend's Wedding, Julia started a fresh life that had been lacking in Hollywood for some time. Offscreen, after a brief marriage, Julia had been romantically linked with several other actors. Julia has also become involved with UNICEF charities and has made visits to many different countries, including Haiti and India, in order to promote goodwill.

Julia is one of the most popular and a sought-after talents in Hollywood. "Julia Roberts has a special mischievous charm coupled with a wide-eyed vulnerability that translate into onscreen charisma. Films helped to further restore Roberts to her status as the most Bankable Women in Hollywood." This status was further demonstrated with her film salary of twenty million---the highest salary ever paid to a screen actress to date. She recieved this to star as the heroine of Steven Soderbergh's Erin Brockovichin 2000. The film about a secretary (Roberts) who exposes a major enviromental scandle, turned out to be one of Robert's most successful projects to date.

"Enthusiastically embraced by critics and audience alike, Brockovich won Roberts both the Golden Globes’ Best Actress Oscar at the 2000 Academy Awards." Roberts gives me a lot of encouragement in helping me accomplish my goals. What I admire is what she achieved and that she is a very determined Lady. That’s why I look up to Julia Roberts as a Hero. She never gave up, she strived to be her best and she also made her dreams come true. I love all her accomplishments.
