My hero is Rod Morgenstein. He is my hero because he helped me in my drumming "career."
When I started drumming for the first time, my dad thought I should meet him since he'd heard somehow that Rod was on a tour with Jazz is Dead at the Coachhouse in San Juan Capistrano. He asked me what I wanted to do, and I eagerly agreed.
After we got there, Dad went inside to find Rod. It was the middle of the afternoon sound check before the performance, but Rod came out anyway, which was cool. Rod and I talked for a bit, and he had some awesome and inspirational tips, for instance: What cymbal companies were best, what snare sizes were best, what heads, sticks, and cymbals' metals are best, etcetera. Then we went inside, and Rod showed me some sweet stuff on his drum kit. I kept it in mind for later use.
All in all, he's played a huge part in my life and I'll never forget it.
