Rudy Rudiger

As people grow up, they develop dreams. Someone might not even have a goal or a dream until later in life. For Rudy Rudiger, a hero, it was an entirely different story. From the moment he was born, his own dream was born. More than anything in the whole wide world, Rudy wanted to play Notre Dame Football.

Like a leader, more than anything what Rudy had was determination. As a kid he was always the smallest one, whether it was with his friends or family. He grew up in a town where football was greatly admired; so, he and his brothers always played. Rudy was never included though because he was not big or fast enough. That did not stop him though. "You'll see, I'm going to play football for Notre Dame," he always told everyone. Rudy's entire family knew it was not true and just discouraged him. Being determined, Rudy never stopped believing in his dream to play Notre Dame Football. That is what I respect about Rudy. No matter what people told him, he knew he could do it. Whenever I am in a related situation and do not want to go on, I think of Rudy and it gives me more determination to reach my own dreams.

Rudy Rudiger was persevering. When he tried to get into Notre Dame, he was not smart enough. After months of non-stop studying, he finally got accepted. When he tried out for the football team, he was not good enough. After harsh and long practices of giving every single gut he had, he finally made the team. Rudy was extremely persevering and without that chief quality, he would have never lived his dream. There is no reason why I cannot get through obstacles like Rudy because, if I am like him, I can do anything.

Notre Dame Football

Rudy Rudiger was exceedingly and forever loyal to Notre Dame football. He constantly listened to the games and followed every statistic. Even when they stunk, he was always cheering them on. When I like a team, I stick with them through wins or unbearable loses. He made me realize that it does not matter whether they are good or not, but if your true heart and soul are with them.

Rudy was truly a hero all the way down to his heart. His qualities have a huge impact on me and my decisions on life. Without his determination, perseverance, and loyalty, I would not be the strong, confident person I am today.
