Hero. Hero is a small word but has a lot of meaning. When you think of the word hero you probably might think of maybe Superman, Spiderman, or some comic book hero, but when I think of the word hero I think of someone who killed all odds and conquered his or her dreams or accomplished the impossible. The person I thought about when I added all these things up was Rudy Ruettiger.
Rudy Ruettiger was born in 1948, the third of 14 children in South Bend, Indiana. After graduating from high school, Rudy Ruettiger worked at a power plant both before and after he was in the Navy. Rudy Ruettiger, however, dreamed since he was a child of going to the University of Notre Dame and playing for the Fighting Irish football team. When an accident killed his best friend at the plant, Rudy Ruettiger was finally galvanized into pursuing his dream, a pursuit that inspired others and a move that inspired the motion picture of “Rudy”.
While Rudy was 23, he won admittance to Holy Cross Junior College and took his new studies and put them as the first thing on his mind, while working as a grounds keeper at Notre Dame's Knute Rockne Stadium. Rudy suffered a case of dyslexia, which affected some of his grades at first, but then he learned to compensate for his dyslexia and he earned good grades at Holy Cross for the next two years. Rudy was finally accepted on his fourth time after being denied three times for a transfer student to Notre Dame. After he was accepted he overcame the odds and became a part of the scout team, which ran the real team plays. But Rudy’s real goal was to play with the Fighting Irish in a real game. In the next two years of his time at Notre Dame on the team, Rudy gained respect from his coaches and teammates but still hadn’t played. In Rudy’s last year at Notre Dame, Rudy was sent out for the first time on the field. In last twenty-seven seconds of the last game of the season Rudy Ruettiger sacked Georgia Techs quarterback to finish and win the game.
Rudy Ruettiger fits the role as a hero for all times. This form of hero fits Rudy Ruettiger because he showed people that if you believe in your dreams and if you try hard enough you can do anything you put your mind to. Rudy Ruttiger also had the form of a hero within because he had the determination inside of him the whole time and he believed in his dreams so much that he had accomplished his goals even after no one believing in him.
I hope what you have learned about my hero is important to you. I also hope you learn that a hero can be in any form such as a kid to a woman and heroes can come in any shapes or sizes from five foot and ninety-pounds to seven foot and five hundred pounds. And when you think of an inspiration think of Rudy Ruettiger the almighty whose work paid off and accomplished his dream. Most of important when you think of the word “HERO” think of Rudy Ruettiger.
