Rusty

I know a hero that once saved my life: Rusty. Rusty is a very nice dog, but not that exciting. She is very lazy and never does anything but eat, sleep, beg, and go to the bathroom. It is very fun to get her dinner, but not give it to her, and then pet her head and snort at her and she goes crazy.

My parents bought my dog from some people who were very cruel to her, before I was even born. My dogs breed is the Yellow Lab. They are very good hunting dogs, but not Rusty. My dad told me a story that he had taken her on a hunting trip when she was a puppy and she just barked at every animal he came to, scaring it away. My dad says that when she was a puppy, Rusty was just as funny and naughty as any other puppy.

One day when I was two, Rusty saved my life. I was in Highbridge, New Jersey. My mom was pushing a little cart I was sitting in and holding Rusty’s leash in the other hand. We came to a big hill, and Rusty started chasing squirrels. When Rusty started chasing squirrels, my mom let go of the handle on my cart to try to control Rusty and I started rolling down the hill in my little cart. I thought it was fun at first until I saw a giant oak tree, right in my path. Rusty stopped chasing squirrels and started chasing the cart I was in, she finally reached me and jumped up to grab the handle of the cart to stop it. Rusty stopped the cart from crashing, but when the cart stopped suddenly, she was thrown into the big oak tree and made a big cut in her side (about 2ft. long and 1ft. wide)

The scar of that same big cut Rusty got 8 years ago can still be seen on her today, the mark of proof that she saved my life. I am very thankful that Rusty saved my life that day, for otherwise, I would not be typing this. I’m very proud of my dog and she is now a very good friend.
