Svetlana Makarovič

Svetlana Makarovič was born on 1.1.1939. She became a writer and a poet. She writes stories for children and also for adults. Now she doesn’t write poetry any more because she doesn’t want to. She writes all her thoughts, viewpoints, she criticizes society conditions in her books for the adults. But she wrote a lot of nice stories for the children (Pekarna Mišmaš, Sapramiška, Kosovirji,…).

Svetlana created a word Slovencelj (Slovenceljni). This word names people who are narrow-minded, primitive, double-faced and servile. With that word she tells us everything what she thinks about Slovene people. She is free-thinking person. She doesn’t mind what people think about her, she has her own viewpoints and she stands by them. She also hates hypocrisy. She said: “If the nation goes extinct than it deserves that.” She doesn’t care if the Slovenian nation will someday be extinct, because the nation which is extinct doesn’t know their culture, their history, it succumbs to foreign influence and its language, so it’s definitely not worthy to exist. She doesn’t like that the Roman Catholic Church is involved into political systems and she doesn’t like its teaching and unaccepting differences.

Svetlana is my hero because I agree with her viewpoints and because she doesn’t succumb to other people. I wish that people will become like her and that they wouldn’t be Slovenceljni.
