Stacey Bess

by Bayleigh from Dublin

A leader. Determined. Inspiring. Courageous. These are just a few words to describe young hero Stacey Bess. She is an example of a hero. A hero is someone that people look up to, want to be like and are inspired by that person. A hero is a person that knows what you feel like and is understanding.

Stacey Bess began her teaching job at age 24 after getting her bachelor’s degree from the University of Utah. Ever since she was a little girl she dreamed about being a teacher. Her first teaching job was at “The School with No Name”. This was a school for homeless kids. She always wanted to be a teacher but she never expected to be this kind of a teacher but Stacey Bess was NOT a quitter. The school had no desks, supplies or textbooks. She called the kids into the school, took a deep breath and introduced herself. She had to turn these kids lives upside down. These kids didn’t know right from wrong because they had grown up on the side of the road. Stacey Bess took time to hear the kids stories and learn all about them. Later in her life she won the National Jefferson Award for Greatest Public Service.

She is a leader because she led these kids to the right decisions and gave them her own time to help them learn. She is determined because this job was hard but she never gave up and she stood up for what she wanted. She wanted the kids to have a better life and she had faith in them. She would do whatever it took to change their lives.

She is very inspiring. She is inspiring because she is not only a hero to me but many other kids in America. She has inspired me because now I want to be just like her. She is also courageous because she was brave and took on a big challenge. She wanted to change these kids lives but it would be hard. Stacey Bess was committed to her job and she followed her dreams.

Stacey Bess always had a good attitude. If she was mad or sad about something she didn’t show it on her face. She treated everyone like they were her own kids and she wanted the best for them. I would say that Stacey Bess was patient because she would spend all of her own time if she had to, to help these kids learn. She would do whatever it took to help them learn. A leader. Determined. Inspiring. Courageous. These are just a few words to describe young hero Stacey Bess.
