My Dad (Facebook)

Some people know my dad when they see him. Most people know my dad when I mention his name. My dad is so well known around Vermont because he is a fireman/EMT for the Essex Junction Fire Department and Essex Rescue. My dad's name is Steven Harnois and he is my hero. Steven Harnois is very respected by the people in town and people like him. He is funny, grateful, and never down. He loves our cats, and most of all he loves his family.

Steven Harnois is an hard worker, and when he was young, he looked up to firemen and was inspired by fireman. When 1989 rolled on in, he joined the fire department and now in 2014 he is going on his 25th year with this organization. After he was with the fire department for a couple years, he became an EMT or an emergency medical technician. Now he is an nationally registered EMT.

My dads Fire

Some people think it's easy sailing becoming a fireman or an EMT or both, but Steven Harnois will tell you a different story. After my dad became an firefighter, he went through months of training. He went to multiple classes in Massachusetts, Georgia, Pittsford and Vermont. "You have to devote most of your time and energy to this organization." he said.

My dad has seen deaths of all types but some happy moments too. For example, one day my dad went on a call. He recognized the address; it was his friend's house. He got into his truck and rushed over to his house, but it was too late. When he got there, his friend was D.R.T. (Dead Right There). Also my dad has had some happy times with the fire department. For example, my dad goes to training every Monday night. In his early years with the fire department, he and his buddies went the the nearest pub and had a few beers, but he never broke the law; that is how devoted to his community he is.

My dad isn't just a fireman, he also volunteers with the school. For example, he drives around for the Essex Junction JROTC (Junior Officer Training Core) to places like New York, New Hampshire, and Maine. And if you don't see Steven Harnois at the firehouse or at home, he's likely at a meeting for the Little League board.

To me, Steven Harnois is the best dad in the world, almost like super dad. My dad does all of this stuff not because he wants to look good, it is because he is doing this out of the goodness of his heart. I hope if you do not know my dad, that now you know a little bit about him or a little bit more about him if you know him a little.
