Stephen Hawking

by Samantha from San Diego

"Intelligence is the ability to adapt to change," (Stephen Hawking). Stephen hawking has been able to adapt to all the changes in his life making it possible for his intelligence. Stephan Hawking was born to the parents Frank and Isabelle Hawking on January 8, 1942. Hawking has ASL, a disability paralyzing most of his body and making him unable to speak, ("Stephen W. Hawking"). Stephen Hawking is a hero because he shows intelligence and strength even though he is disabled with ASL and therefore he is inspirational.

Stephen Hawking is known for his amazing intelligence even with his disability of ASL. Stephen Hawking came up with new ideas that shocked everyone and impressed many people. For instance, "He applied the idea of a singularity to the Big Bang theory, the theory that the universe was created by an explosion in the distant past--perhaps fifteen billion years ago--and continues to expand to this day," ("Stephen W. Hawking."). He is intelligent and diligent with all of his work. Many aspire to be like him but no one comes in comparison to his smarts and intelligence. He came up with ideas relating to the Big Bang Theory and added his knowledge to other theories. He was given reasons to end his studies but he kept going, "In 1963, Hawking contracted motor neuron disease and was given two years to live. Yet he went on to Cambridge to become a brilliant researcher and Professorial Fellow at Gonville and Caius College," (Cruz; R. Bouwens). Getting ASL inspired him to do more thinking he was going to die. He got many awards for his intelligence and lived past what doctors thought he would. Even with being disabled he is known as the smartest man in the world. He inspires others to work their hardest to be as intelligent as they can. Anyone can get a normal education but if people push themselves they can achieve anything they want to.

Hawking also posses strength, both mentally and physically. Hawking gained so much knowledge even with his disease,"Hawking has managed to accomplish all this despite his deteriorating physical condition, caused by ALS," ("Stephen W. Hawking."). He realizes that he needs to do all he can while he is living even with his ASL. He has so much mental strength that instead of being scared he went out and made a difference in the science world. He inspires people to do more each day to make a difference in life because you never know when it will be your last day. He was told he didn't have long to live, "But against all the odds he survived and is now one of the most highly respected, influential and best-known physicists of the 20th-century, who has brought the world of physics to a mass audience" ("A brief history of Stephen Hawking"). With his strength both mentally and physically he survived and is currently the smartest man in the world. Also, with whatever struggles you may have that if you put your mind to something you can do it. Even with a paralyzing disability he has the strength to accomplish his dreams and to do what he desires.

Many people are inspired by Stephen Hawking for many things. Not only did he discover many theories about space he inspires people to work and get their dreams. Like when he says, "Remember to look up at the stars and not down at your feet. Try to make sense of what you see and wonder about what makes the universe exist. Be curious. And however difficult life may seem, there is always something you can do and succeed at. It matters that you don't just give up," (Hawking). He teaches that we should never give up on our dreams and even through our difficult times we should push ourselves because everyone is capable of amazingly unthinkable things. He shows us that even when we feel like we have our restrictions we need to break those to do what we love, do the things that make us happy, to be curious, and to accomplish our dreams. He also shows how simple his dreams can be but at the same time can involve so much work, like when he says, "My goal is simple. It is a complete understanding of the universe, why it is as it is and why it exists at all," (Hawking). He sets his dreams high and works to achieve them; he is doing what everyone should be trying to do. Everyone should push themselves to achieve their goals just like Hawking does. Hard work, even in the toughest of times, will pay off.

Stephen Hawking is a hero because he shows intelligence and strength even though he is disabled with ASL and therefore he is inspirational. If you push yourself through whatever life throws at you, and work your hardest you can achieve what you set your mind to. Stephen hawking inspires me to do my best in everything so I can accomplish my dreams and do things that people think are undoable. If people adapt more to the changes in their life, they can gain more intelligence on what they need in their lives.
