A hero can be someone who saves lives, helps someone, or who just cares for people, but my hero does all of that. Police officers and firefighters give a lot to their community. Sometimes people forget how much time and dedication goes into having such a big responsibility. Especially being a police officer, like my hero he sometimes has to do things he doesn't want to do, but he knows it will make more people safe.

My hero is Scott Jeter, my dad. He retired in 2008 after 20 years of service to the Roseville Police Department because he loves to help people. I’m happy to say my hero lives with me. Scott Jeter has been making a difference for over 20 years. When he was about 25 years old he started helping as many people as possible. He didn’t want to be the police officer that just took people to jail, he wanted to be the one that could help change or improve lives. He has received numerous awards such as, Police Officer of the Year, and The Heart of Hero.

In 2004 Scott Jeter was honored with the award called The Silver Medal of Valor. He received this award due to his heroic actions at my birthday party. On my eighth birthday 10 or more of my friends were enjoying painting ornaments at Petroglyphs. My dad left to go get pizza for us. On his way he saw a suspicious man walking down the street. He called the police department and asked if anything had been called in. Nothing had been reported. He picked up the pizza and was driving back to the party, when he received a phone call from the police department. The dispatcher told him the bank down the street had just reported a robbery. The robber was described wearing similar clothes to the man my dad saw earlier. When my dad pulled into the shopping center where my birthday was being held, he saw the man next door to my party. My dad approached the suspect and a fight quickly began. Next thing I know I look out the window and several police cars were in the parking lot. My friends and I had our faces squished against the window watching my dad hand-cuff the bank robber. It was the most exciting party I have ever had in my life. The pizza was cold but definitely worth it.
My dad is an inspiration to me by his caring actions. He gives something every day. Sometimes, it is just taking me to a sports practice or other times, when he is giving someone support. He inspires me to try and help and care for anybody I can. He motivates me to try and care for others because he is such a good person, and that’s how I want to be. During his career, he was assigned to a local high school. It was during this assignment that he was awarded the "Heart of a Hero." He made such a big difference to so many people. Scott Jeter fits the definition of a hero by saving lives, and changing lives. If he knew someone at the high school could have a chance to improve their lives, he would try his best to make their lives better.

Scott Jeter can be a hero to anybody. He can be a great friend, a great person to talk to, and a great dad. He is always there to talk to me, or anybody that might need advice or someone to talk to.
