Steve Jobs

by Thomas from San Diego

"What a computer is to me is the most remarkable tool that we have ever come up with. It's the equivalent of a bicycle for our minds." (Steve Jobs) This quote from Steve Jobs himself shows that he really is a true innovator. He was born on February 24, 1955 in San Francisco, California and as a newborn child, was put up for adoption. His adoptive parents, Paul and Clara Jobs, raised him in Cupertino, CA located in what is now known as Silicon Valley. When Jobs was just 21 he and his friend, Steve Wozniak, started Apple Computers in his parent's garage. Apple grew to be one of the largest computer companies in the world. Steve Jobs died on October 5, 2011 from Pancreatic cancer but Apple still continues his legacy to this day. Steve Jobs was truly a visionary. He succeeded in his main goal for Apple, which was to make personal computers a part of the average person's everyday life. Steve Jobs is a deserving hero because of his perseverance, innovative thinking, and his hard-working effort that started a computer company which brought the world into a new technological age.

With lots of perseverance, Steve Jobs followed his passion for computers and started Apple Computers. At one point, Steve Jobs had actually left his own company, Apple. He rebounded from this low point in his career by starting two other huge companies. "In 1985, Jobs resigned as Apple's CEO to begin a new hardware and software company called NeXT, Inc. The following year Jobs purchased an animation company from George Lucas, which later became Pixar Animation Studios." In biographies and online sources, Jobs is said to have resigned from his position as CEO of Apple. But in his Stanford 2005 commencement speech, he stated that he was fired from his own company. Whichever is true, Steve Jobs left Apple in 1985 and suffered a major down point in his life. He came back from this by starting two new companies and was eventually welcomed back to apple in 1996 when Apple bought his company, NeXT. One hardship that Steve Jobs had to overcome ever since he was a child was that he was abandoned at birth. "Steven Paul Jobs was born on February 24, 1995 in San Francisco, California. His unwed biological parents, Joanne Schieble and Abdulfattah Jandali, put him up for adoption." Jobs was abandoned at birth by his biological parents, but in his biography the biographer quoted him saying that he always thought of his adoptive parents as his real parents. Even though he was adopted, he still became a big success and started a major corporation. Jobs overcame many hardships in his life but turned them around to make something great.

Steve Jobs' innovative thinking was the quality that helped him start Apple. Jobs thought differently than others and this was probably what lead to his success. "Steve Jobs took interest, and he quickly understood that his friend's brilliant invention could be sold to software hobbyists, who wanted to write software without the hassle of assembling a computer kit. Jobs convinced Wozniak to start a company for that purpose: Apple Computers was born on April 1, 1976." This quote is a perfect example of how Jobs was not only a visionary technologically, but also a smart businessman. He took an idea that his friend, Steve Wozniak, had, improved upon it and then sold it to other computer enthusiasts as their invention. Steve Jobs was arguably the most important person in the technological industry because he made computers user-friendly enough to be in the average household. "They built and marketed the first Apple computers, designed specifically to be user-friendly desktop machines for the general public.'We started out to get a computer in the hands of everyday people, and we succeeded beyond our wildest dreams,'  Jobs remarked to Cathy Booth in Time." He is most credited for Apple computers and how he made the personal computer accessible to just about everyone. Not only that, because Steve Jobs made his products in a simple and stylish design that made people want to buy it. Steve Jobs was an innovator because he saw a need for personal computers in the average household of America and made it happen.

Steve Jobs' success was not just handed to him, he only got to where he was because of his hard work and effort. Jobs literally started Apple computers from nothing and turned it into something great. "In 1976, when Jobs was just 21, he and Wozniak started Apple Computers. The duo started in the Jobs' family garage." He built Apple from the ground up and it all started with the very first Macintosh computers made in His parent's garage. Jobs would later go on to become a founder and CEO of arguably the largest computer and electronic companies in the world. All of Jobs' peers and colleagues said that his attitude was what caused him to be such a great success. "'I think his desire for complete control of whatever he makes derives directly from his personality and the fact that he was abandoned at birth. He wants to control his environment, and he sees the product as an extension of himself' said Del Yocam." Steve Jobs carried himself out like he was the greatest. His attitude was what made him great leader. His colleague, Del Yocam, said that he, "sees the product as an extension of himself." This is a quality that shows Jobs' hard work and care for his company. He worked very hard to be the large success that he was.

Steve Jobs' perseverance, innovative thinking, and hard work are some of the qualities that make him a deserving hero. When Steve Jobs started Apple Computers, he never could have guessed that his company would be such a great success. Some would argue that his effort with Apple to make personal computers for the everyday user changed the world. Steve Jobs is an inspiration not only to me, but to everyone because he never stopped striving for greatness. He didn't stop trying until he was the absolute greatest at what he did, and that makes him a hero.
