Sean M. Judge

by Ryan from Dublin

My dad before he got cancer.
My dad before he got cancer.

I believe that a hero is special, helpful, and is nice to others.  A resilient and persevering person (or animal).  Many people have these traits, but one person that stands out is my father, Sean Judge.

My dad was born in Methuen, Massachusetts.  He is the father of my brother and sister and I.  He is (obviously) married to my mom, Carmen Judge.  He is a pilot in the United States Air Force, so we have to move every now and then.  Recently, we found out that he has an unusual type of cancer, and he is still getting treatments.  This has delayed our moving.  I feel very lucky that he does not have a bad type of cancer, but a treatable kind that is expected to go away relatively soon.  Even though it may sound bad, it could always be much worse.  At home, we hardly ever bring it up, because he does not have a case where he is in the hospital constantly.

He is resilient because, even though he has cancer, he treats it like no big deal.  He is very nice to me, and helps me when I need him.  He has persevered his way through cancer, even though he goes into the hospital for a week at a time every few weeks.  I believe my dad is a true hero for all of these reasons.

My dad is special because he is always there when I need him.  He helps me with homework, problems, and other things.  He really cares about my siblings and I. I believe this also makes him heroic.

My dad may not be a national hero or anything, but he is definitely a true hero to me.
