Scott Keith (Dad)

by Brandon from Greer

What is a hero? A hero is someone who inspires you. It's someone you look up to and want to follow in their footsteps. They're a role model to you. They mean something to you.

My hero is my father. He has been around my whole life. Look around, most kids don't have both parents. Usually not their dad because once a girl gets pregnant they don't stick around or they get on drugs and get into trouble and go to jail. Not my dad because he puts his family first.

Another reason is because my dad does whatever he's got to do to give his family the best life he can. I won't lie I get almost everything I want and ask for, long as it is not crazy expensive. I might not get it right away but I will get it most of the time. The reason this is such a big reason is because he did not go to college. In the world today without a college degree you can't support a family. Yet my dad still supports his family very good with a job that you have to have a college degree to get, yet he still got it. It is just a little harder on him.

I can always go talk to my dad about anything. Yes, there may be consequences but I would rather go to him and tell him and not let him find out some other way. He will make it a lot easier on me and help me get out of trouble. I go to him for most stuff like during the summer I had a bump come up on my chest and thinking it was a pimple, I popped it and it kept bleeding. In fear, I jumped up and ran to him. He got up and helped me get it to stop. That was at 3:00 am. Then three days later, I woke up at like 1:00 am with a giant nasty bump in the pimples place. Again, I ran straight to him and he helped me calm down and go to bed. Then, the next day he took me to the doctor.

Also my dad is always doing something with me whether it is playing basketball, going with me somewhere, or playing NCAA on the Xbox. He doesn't have to do any of this stuff, but yet he does because we both enjoy it. We both hate to lose so it isn't always a perfect ending. We always end up arguing and laughing after it's over.

One of the main reasons he is my hero is because before me and my sister were born, my dad was a big cigarette smoker. He went through a pack a day. Then my sister was born. A few years later, she asked him to quit smoking. He stopped that very day, right then. Till this day he still hasn't smoked one. It's been more than 16 years. If he can do it, doesn't that mean anyone can?

My dad is my hero, my role model, my inspiration, my best friend, and a father all in one. I want to treat my kids just like he treats his kids. I'm very blessed to have my dad in my life. He has made my life to this point an awesome one!
