Stephen King

by Ashley from Dublin

I thought a hero should be someone who has a commitment in writing and will keep writing until he creates a best seller.

Stephen King was born on September 21, 1947 in Portland, Maine. When Stephen King was 7 he wrote his first short story and later published it when he was 18 in a comic frazine. After he attended the University of Maine he worked as a sports writer for his local newspaper. Other jobs he had was being an English teacher and an industry worker. Later while he was a teacher he published his first novel, Carrie in 1974. Over the next 10 years he became the most popular writer in the United States.

Stephen King’s novels later hit T.V. screens such as The Running Man(1989), The Shining(1980), The Dead Zone(1983), and Misery(1990) which were the most successful movies. Some movies failed such as Pet Cemeteries(1989) and Needful Things(1993). In June 1999, Stephen King suffered an awful injury by getting hit by a mini van. His injuries made it difficult to write, so in 2002 he made an announcement that he would stop writing. This news devastated many loyal fans. However, he continued to write. He just writes at a slower pace. Stephen King is now a very well known writer.
