Stephen King

by Isabella from Glenbrook Middle School

"Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind." - Theodor Seuss Geisel

Stephen King was born in Portland, Maine in 1947. After his parents separated when he was only a toddler, he spent time with his father who lived in Fort Wayne, Indiana. He stayed here until he was 11 when his mother took him to Durham, Maine, where his grandparents were dying of old age. He has faced many challenges in his life including the death of his mother around the year 1973 because of her failing health; King was married with kids when this happened.

Wile King was in college he worked for the school’s newspaper. After King graduated from college he started publishing many books and stories which is the reason he is my hero. He is an amazing author (in my opinion) who publishes a wide variety of books that are enjoyed by many people.

His imaginative style and various topics really inspire me and many others. He contributes to many charities and also provides scholarships to local high school students. Writing has made him very successful. Many of his books have been made into movies, including well known ones such as Salem's Lot in 1979 and in 1980, The Shining.

Stephen King's books have always been a dumbfounding sight for me.... how he could have published so many amazing books. When I was young I would see my older brother reading his books or talking about the movies that were based on them. Whenever I read an amazing book I grow to have a great deal of respect for the author who has created the masterpiece. I believe that part of how I learned to respect books was caused by him, seeing that he could write and publish so much really inspired me.

Stephen King is my hero for all of these reasons. He has had many hardships in his life, he writes and publishes amazing amounts of great writing, and still he finds time to donate to charity. Now that I am writing a book of my own, I look to authors like him; it gives me hope that some day I will be published as well.
