As a Princeton and Yale alumni, she still applies her knowledge to decide cases and make rational decisions for our country. Sonia Sotomayor faced much adversity in her life. At a young age Sotomayor's father died when she was nine years old and that really impacted her. Sotomayor's father was 42 when he died and an alcoholic that had low level education. This was difficult for her in various ways. Following his death, Celina, her mother, began working six-day weeks as a nurse to support the family, and Sotomayor began to learn how to speak English fluently. ("Sonia Sotomayor" ). She had to work harder because she needed to adapt to having just her mother . Another way her father's death impacted her was that she had less support in life. Even though I haven't lost a parent like she did, I know how it feels to lose a family member. In my opinion, the feeling of losing a family member is very unpleasant but eventually those people heal.

She was appointed by President George H.W. Bush to served as District Court Judge for the Southern District of New York City from 1992 to 1998. She inspires me because she was a girl that had a rough childhood but ended up turning her life around. Also she influences me to do better on my academics and exceed expectations.
