Stevie Wonder

by Connor from Columbus

A hero should show determination even when life is hard. He should also inspire others to do good things and be unselfish. A sense of humor is always a good thing to have. I'm going to tell you about my hero, Stevie Wonder. He is an amazing musician. When he was just days old he was blinded. That disability does not keep him from playing music. In fact, he is world famous for his music.

When Stevie Wonder was born he was put into an incubator and given too much oxygen which damaged his eyes, so he became blind. He was born in Saginaw, Michigan and grew up in Saginaw. He got interested in music when he was five and he learned how to play harmonica. When he was six, he started piano lessons. Then he started playing drums at eight.

Later in his life, he became a hit in music. Now he has won twenty-six Grammys! Some of his most famous songs are: "Isn't She Lovely," "My Cherie Amour," and "You Are the Sunshine of My Life." Stevie was once arrested for being a part of a protest against Apartheid in South Africa on Valentine's Day in 1985.

Stevie has inspired me by showing me that even people with disabilities can make it far in life. Not only is he talented, but he stands up for what he believes in. He has had to work hard to be so good at what he does. He doesn't let his disabilities get in his way. In fact, he has a sense of humor about it. He recently did a car commercial where he acts like he can tell the color of a car.

Stevie Wonder demonstrates many qualities of a hero. He has been determined, even though his life wasn't easy. He stands up for what he believes in, even if it means getting arrested. Through it all, he has shared his amazing talent with the world. He can laugh at himself and make other people feel good about themselves at the same time. Stevie Wonder is truly a hero.
