Sun Yat Sen is the establisher of the Republic of China and he overthrew the Qing Dynasty after many failed uprising attempts, thus ending the 2000 years of Imperial rule in China. Sun was born in China in 1866, and he went to study in Hawaii when he was 13 years old. During his time there, Sun learned English, Mathematics and Science. He even received an award for his outstanding performance in English, despite being a native Chinese. But, he was later sent back to his hometown in China, by his brother for fear that Sun Yat Sen would become a Christian. However Sun was later forced to relocate to Hong Kong, due to fear of a rage of his fellow neighbors for his Christian beliefs and his contemptuous views on Chinese religions. During his time in Hong Kong he was baptized and began to study medicine and earned a license or medical practice it was here in Hong Kong that Sun Yat Sen got his revolutionary ideas from, later on he started his first revolutionary uprising in Guangzhou but quickly failed due to information leaked to the Qing government. Despite many unsuccessful revolutions, victory finally came during the Xinhai revolution in 1911. Sun then returned to China from his exile and was elected president of the Republic of China and the Qing Dynasty was officially abolished.

Sun Yat Sen is seen as a hero to many people in China, because he changed the history of China forever, because for almost 2000 years, China was under imperial rule. And if it wasn't for him and his fellow revolutionaries, China might be still ruled by the corrupted Qing dynasty. Another fact that proves Sun Yat Sen is a hero, is that he was a very determined person and will never abandon his beliefs and ideals, as seen when he was exiled to other countries, he kept on supporting the uprisings, even though when he was forced into exile and that the chances of success wasn't really high. He also loved his country so much that, he was willing to transform and modernize China, even if his life was in danger.

I also admire Sun Yat Sen's ideology in his political philosophy called,"The Three Principles of the People," it mainly focuses on three main principles: nationalism, democracy, and the people's livelihood. In nationalism, Sun believed that China should be free from imperial rule and that the different ethnicities in China should be united. In the second principle, democracy, Sun Yat Sen states that a government should not be governed by one ruler, but to be divided into separate powers, so that there won't be too much power on one person. On the third and last principle, people's livelihood, Sun separated livelihood into four different sections, clothing, food, housing, and transportation, and outlined how an ideal Chinese government should take care of these for its people. This is still practised and is the main foundation in the government of Taiwan today and through this philosophy, I can see that Sun Yat Sen really cares about his people and is not a person who only lusts for power.

Thanks to Sun Yat Sen, China has transformed from a weak and poor country based on imperialist domination to a strong country and one of the fastest growing major economies in the world, and through his lifetime work, he inspires me to become a hardworking and determined person who will never give up, no matter what challenges that I will face in the future.
