Have you ever thought of how some people end up in a wheelchair when they had a perfect life going for them? They were healthy and had a family. Most people think it cannot happen to them, but it can happen to anyone.

My hero is Stephen Murray, who was one of the highest rated BMX riders in the country. Stephen is still known as one of the greatest riders to ever come through the sport of BMX. Some people say it was an accident when in reality it was a tragedy to his life, friends, and the sport. People looked up to him, as did I, as a role model. Stephen was born January 9, 1980 in Newcastle, England.

Stephen Murray found himself in a wheelchair after a horrid fall trying a double backflip on Friday June 22, 2007. The wreck ended his career as a professional BMX rider. Stephen suffered from a spinal cord and vertebrae injury, which made him paralyzed from the neck down. Stephen resides in Riverside, California. Since the accident, he has been working with an incredible doctor in rehabilitation. Stephen has the ability to move his fingers and toes slightly. Stephen hopes that one day he might be able to walk again.
Stephen is my hero because he survived one of the most dangerous accidents in the world and has kept hope through the whole ordeal. He was one of my most looked up to riders and has earned my respect as he should of others too. So "STAY STRONG" Stephen Murray.
That is how a person ended up in a wheelchair. Others alike him have done it by things they do everyday that go wrong. Some people are fortunately able to recover from it and walk again. Some will never walk again.
