Steven Steve John Nash

by Jasmine from Edmonton

Steve Nash is a point guard in NBA basketball. He is number 13, and plays for the Phoenix Suns. Steve was born on February 7, 1974, in South Africa. While he was still a young kid, his parents moved him to British Columbia, Canada. During his elementary and junior high years, Nash was interested in hockey and soccer. When he got to high school, Steve put aside hockey and soccer, and started focusing on basketball. Once he got into college, Santa Clara University gave him a scholarship in basketball. He took the scholarship and played for their team. He started his career when the Phoenix Suns drafted him in the first round, fifteenth overall.

Steve has accomplished many things in his life, many that make him a champion. One thing that Nash did was create the Steve Nash Foundation in 2001. It was developed to assist underprivileged kids in their health, personal development, their education and enjoyment. Steve Nash averages 15.6 points per game and 7.3 assists per game. He has won two Most Valuable Player awards in a row, not in games, but for the entire season! Steve Nash, went and played for team Canada in the Olympics in basketball, and was captain of the team. Once the Suns saw his amazing performance at the 2000 Olympics, they had to meet him. He has been one of the top players for the Phoenix Suns now for more then three years in a row.

Steve Nash is my champion because he has gone so far in life, and has helped many people in fundraisers. Just like Nash, I am quite interested in hockey and soccer. I enjoy playing basketball, and like Nash, I like to practice at my skills and improve my rating.
