yay! (http://www.go211.com/pros/qanda/wescott) |
Snowboarding is a skill whereby many people start off at the bottom and work their way up as they practice. For example, Seth Wescott fulfilled his dream to become a 7 time x-game medalist by learning how to skateboard. His skateboarding skills helped him to become a talented snowboarder. Now he is a very competitive athlete who has much recognition in snowboarding contests. He knows that many people look up to him. He is a hero to me, he inspires me as I challenge myself through his skill and ability.
This American snowboarder born in Durham, North Carolina on June 28th, 1976, is a consistent snowboarding medalist, and has gained many concessions in snowboarding contests. Seth Wescott lives in Farmington Maine where he and his sister grew up. He began his journey and dream of snowboarding when he was only eight, but how did he do it? He still had to start at the bottom and work his way up like the rest of us, but he had a technique he learned from skateboarding. And now at age 31 he is a champion athlete--- Seth Wescott once said, “The feeling it gave me, to stand tall and proud gliding down the hill changed my life forever.” (sethwescott.com). Sports you are “in love with” can change your life, your personality and/or your mind.

after he won the X- games (http://www.snowskills.net) |
Seth has had so many great accomplishments in his life. He graduated from Colorado Mountain College in 1991 then later in the year he started competing in snowboarding contests. In 2001 he became a member of the U.S snowboarding team. He was put in the Guinness book of world records in 2002 and 2003, for holding the most medals won in the x-games. Then in 2004 he badly tore a ligament in his left knee. He was afraid that he couldn’t participate in the SBX tournament, but that didn’t stop Seth. He participated and won 1st place.

winner! (http://www.directsportslink.com/find-a-speaker-celeb.jsp?speakerid=573) |
Due to Seth’s torn ligament he had to let his, “golden chance” slip away. His team members were nervous, what were they to do? The contest was in 1 week and they didn’t have a team player to board. Seth suggested that they play Seth’s girlfriend in the snowboard cross instead and they ended up placing 2nd! So you see even though he is a professional snowboarder he still misses out on fun stuff.
Seth has had so many great and fun experiences. He is definitely my hero and I hope one day I'll be like him, famous for having fun, doing what he loves but still having a normal life like us. He will continue to inspire me and I will continue to challenge myself.
