I know you're thinking how could Scooby-doo be a romantic hero, when he can barely speak words. Well i have here a chart which explains to me what are the characteristics of a romantic hero. The characteristics are that the hero is: young, innocent or pure in heart, has a sense of honor, has a knowledge of people and of life based on deep understanding, loves nature, and quest for a higher truth. In the second paragraph I will explain how Scooby-doo fits into all or most of these characteristics.

The first characteristic is that he is young, well Scooby is no puppy but he sure acts like one. The second one he is innocent, this one is easy, dogs don't really have mischievous thoughts or actions that are meant. Also in the cartoon there was actually an episode where they actually claim him as pure hearted. Scooby doo I think has a sense of honor because the main purpose of the cartoon is to find out a mystery which actually ends up having some bad people up to no good. He and his gang usually put a stop to them. Now for the hard one, he must have a deeper understanding of life. Well what i see in him is that his friendship with his friends is unbreakable. That shows me that he knows some stuff to keep his friends together. Loves nature? This i think he does not have because he is kind of a coward and does not explore the unknown without a push. However, to me to be afraid of something is that you know a lot about the thing to scare you. So he must know nature in the way he sees it. Now for the last one, he quests in the cartoon to find the truth about mysteries, and he usually figures it out.

PS: If you think i'm a scooby-doo guru i'm not. i just recall this from my childhood. and it does not hurt to watch cartoons, especially Scooby-doo.
