Seabiscuit

by Fiona from the U.K.

When I'm asleep, I can be this other person. Brave, strong, normal. I wake to find this girl, in a broken body. I needed to be fixed. People look to my horse to think she's an ugly, aggressive beast. But to me. she's the glue that's put me back together. And in a way, I've put her back together too.

Seabiscuit was this broken horse, sold for rock bottom price. He'd been trained to lose, so that's what he did. He lost. But he was found by Red Pollard. He went on to do great things with Red. And gradually, was fixed. After years together, Red got crushed by a horse, but Biscuit made him better. He made him greater. They needed breaking so they had each other to fix.

My story is very similar. Blue was this broken horse, sold for rock bottom price. She'd been trained to do nothing. She bit, reared and kicked. I found her. I fixed her. I made her great. She was mine. After 2 years together I rode another horse, fell off racing my friend and was crushed under her horse's feet. But Blue made me better. I knew how she felt being broken.

My girl means everything to me. She makes me smile when I'm sad. She makes rainy days sunny. But most importantly, she makes me myself. Seabiscuit taught me to look, not into the pretty, well behaved horses, but to the ones with a heart.
