My hero is not a person you have heard of for a long while. In my opinion Selena was one of the greatest singers, ever since I was a young child. I remember when I was little I would go around my house singing her songs and saying that I was her. That is how much I liked her. I even asked my mom once if I could dye my hair black so I could look more like, and it would always disappoint me when she said no.

Selena Quintanilla was a normal girl growing up with lots of dreams. When she and her siblings were all kids, they performed in their father's (Abraham Quintanilla) restaurant. So therefore by the time Selena was eight, she was performing in front of crowds. Selena grew up performing but still always had the dream of having her own clothing line. Selena, with her brothers and sister, became a popular group called "Selena y Los Dinos," but the still needed another guitarist, and that’s where Chistopher Perez came in. They thought that Cris would help their band, but Selena thought more of him.

In 1987 Selena won the Tejano Music Award for female entertainer of the year. In 1992 she married the guitarist of the band, Chistopher Perez. That same year, 1992, Selena launched her own clothing line.

In 1995 a tragic thing happened: the leader and founder of the Selena Fan Club, who was also a close friend of the family, shot and killed Selena. Everyone was devastated when they found out. The Queen of Tejano Music had been killed. Selena was a great musical artist and role model. Now this great artist has passed on because of the mistake of one person. But what makes Selena my role model is that she was very strong. That is why Selena Quintanilla Perez is my hero.
