A hero is someone who inspires me and makes others feel good about themselves. He is someone who people can learn from and become a better person. That someone is a hero to me. A hero who not only teaches but he himself is learning from others as well.
When I was a little kid about seven years old, my older brother told me to listen to a new CD he had gotten. Little did I know that that CD would have a major impact on my life. At first I just listened to the music, it really had no meaning. I guess I was not old enough to understand or appreciate the lyrics. As I grew older I heard more of his songs, but still they were just songs to me. This man was named Tupac Amaru Shakur.
When I was about fourteen years old I had a life changing experience. I stopped and took the time to listen to the lyrics in one of his songs named “Changes”. When I listened to it I realized he knew much more than I thought. This made me fiend for any scrap of his music. I listened to his songs and now they had new life and meaning. It hit me that this man knew about the struggles of growing up in the ghetto, living in poverty, facing discrimination, and not even graduating high school, but still having the strength to become a superstar.
Tupac decided that he wanted to help normal people to have a voice and he reached them through music that they listened to, Rap. He was like an ambassador of the common people. His songs were, at times, passionate and at other times very sensitive. He did not hide behind an image; he was real all the time.
To me, Tupac made songs that I could relate to. He wrote poetry and he himself said that music was poetry. He cared more about lyrics than the sounds. He recorded many songs before he died. He went to death prepared, and he left his legacy that will not soon be forgotten.
