Brendan Shanahan

Do you know who this is? He has scored over 600 goals, helped make hockey better during the lockout, and is also raising three kids. If you guessed my hero, Brendan Shanahan, you are right. He has inspired me to play hockey and I want to be as good as him one day.

Brendan Frederick Shanahan was born in Mimico Ontario in 1969 to Irish Rosaleen and Donel Shanahan. He has three brothers: Danny, Brian and Shaun. During his childhood he mostly played lacrosse. In 1989 he married the ex-wife of former teammate, Catherine Janney, on July 4. They are now raising three children.

Brendan started his career in 1988 in New Jersey. From there he has won three Stanley Cups and many other awards. he has played in New Jersey, London (in the OHL), Hartford, St.Louis, Dusseldorfer EG in the DEL, one of my favourite teams(Detroit) and currently, New York for the Rangers. He has also played many games for Canada internationally.

During the lockout Brendan gathered many players, coaches and other influential hockey people to make improvements to the "flow and tempo" of the game. It is very likely with all his experience he will be elected into the hockey hall of fame.

These are many reasons why I have chosen Brendan Shanahan as my hero. He is so good and I continue to play hockey and do my best to play as well as he does.
