Most of the time, when people are bored or are just in the mood for a rest, they watch TV. They take a seat in their big cushy chair and they settle down for a few hours of prime time. All of the sudden the commercials come on. Normally they would turn the channel, but they might as well just deal with them for a couple of minutes. They watch for a few minutes and this one comes on that gives them the chills. It’s got a picture of this guy, he’s got cuts and bruises, his teeth are falling out, his lips are cracked and bleeding, they feel like puking. This commercial has just convinced them never to do meth. Not Even Once.

Tom Siebel is my hero because of all the time and money he’s given to end the meth problem in Montana. He gave $5.6 million to found the Montana Meth Project. Our National government didn’t give half that much. Siebel is actually giving 5 times more money to the cause than the government is. This money goes towards putting ads on 36,000 minutes of TV and radio, on fifty billboards, in five major daily newspapers and nineteen high school newspapers.

The funny thing about all he’s done is the fact that he wasn’t even a Montana native. He was born on November 20, 1952 in Chicago. He is the founder of one of the leading software companies in the world, Siebel Systems. The company made him one of the richest people in the United States. It also made him one of the few billionaires who have decided to take up residence in the lovely state of Montana.

He first visited Montana thirty-five years ago. It was like love at first sight. He’s been a part time resident ever since. He owns two working cattle ranches in Wolf Creek and Grass Range, and he’s one of the directors of the Montana Historical Society. I will always think it’s a little weird that someone could love Montana so much. Then again I live here, I guess he saw some hidden potential in the people in this state. It must have convinced him that we were worth $5.6 million.

So in case you haven’t figured it out, Tom Siebel is one of my heroes because what he’s doing for the people in this state is just incredible. He’s dedicated this part of his life to the welfare of the people in Montana. This means a lot, not only because I live in Montana but also because I’ve seen what meth can do. Not only to the people on it, but to their families and friends. I commend everyone who is working to end this problem. Tom Siebel just happens to be one of few and one of the proud who are trying to end the meth problem. That makes him my hero.
