The Silver Surfer

Originally named Norrin Radd, The Silver Surfer was an astronomer on the planet Zenn-La, which is about 3,000 light years away from Earth. One day, a cosmic being known as Galactus threatened to destroy Zenn-La, and Norrin Radd stepped forward and volunteered to help Galactus in exchange for the safety of his home planet.

Radd was given a portion of Galactus' power, which made him silver. Galactus also gave him a surfboard, with which he would travel the universe at faster-than-light speeds. What the Silver Surfer had to do was search for other planets for Galactus to consume. Upon reaching Earth, he met the Fantastic Four, who helped him see his awesomeness. The Silver Surfer ended up saving Earth from Galactus, but at the cost of being exiled there.

While on Earth, the Silver Surfer met a blind sculptress who was able to see that The Surfer was noble and brave. Throughout his travels, he experiences various negative human traits such as greed and the want for revenge. Through these struggles he realizes his humanity.

The Silver Surfer managed to break free of his exile to Earth by simply passing through Galactus' barrier without his surfboard. He then saved Galactus' new planet-finder from death and Galactus was so pleased that he let The Silver Surfer go free. He returned to his home planet of Zenn-La to see his former romance, Shalla-Bal, but she has become Empress and can no longer associate herself with the likes of him. What a tease.
