BUNG KARNO He is well known for his talent of speaking to an audience. His act of speaking in front of the people of Indonesia makes the audience eager; he can give a great spirit to the people. Soekarno preaches and gives message to the people about the colonial rule of the Dutch that cannot be overcome by the people of Indonesia, unless with a fight. He is also known internationally and became the spokesman in the Asia-Africa conference that doesn’t agree with west imperialism and colonialism. Soekarno, the son of Ibu Ida Ayu Raisrimben, was born in Pasarbesar, Surabaya (eastern part of Java island) in June 6th 1901. When he was a baby, he was called Kusno, a fragile young lad. So, his father, Raden Soekemi sosrodihardjo, changed his name into Karno, a noble night or hero. From then on, the little Karno never get illed. He grew into a strong and clever young man. He was educated in Hoogere Burger High School. When he entered ITB (Institute Technology of Bandung), he met Douwes Dekker and Tjipto Mangunkusumo made and supports him to be a leader.

Soon, he became the leader of the national movement, to fight against the Dutch. He was also known for his bravery for his confrontation. Although eventually he was put behind bars by the Dutch government, this did not put him into rest. He came back with more brilliant ideas and soon he became the proclamation for the Indonesian independence. He was pointed as the first President of Indonesia; he was very modest by nature. For example, he went straight to scene, to the place where people needs improvement, to the small village, gave a great spirit to the people; he went to kampung-kampung and blend with the people. He had a spectacular idea of making an international sports event, such as GANEFO (Games of New emerging Forces) which was supported by 48 countries. This was opened and first held at Senayan, Indonesia in the year pf 1963.

He also introduced almost every monument in Jakarta, such as the National Monument, The Selamat Datang Statue, Pak Tani Statue, etc. He abdicates his throne to Soeharto after experiencing a serious illness. He passed away at Istana Bogor on June 21st 1970. He was buried beside his mother at Blitar, his home town.

He had a lot of wife. But the most well-known wife is Fatmawati, the woman who sews Indonesia'a first flag.
