Superman

Superman, a member of the Justice League, created by DC comics, is a mythical being that soars above us all. He is a hero to many from Metropolis as well as to me. He has saved us all once or twice, with his heroic quests. Despite Superman's appearance, he is probably the nicest person living on the Earth. Everything he does is for the good of the human race. The fact that Superman uses his powers to save the world instead of destroy the world is what makes him a true hero to me.

Superman was born on a planet called Krypton. Krypton exploded one day. Thankfully Superman's dad, Jor-El, had seen this coming and sent Superman to earth in a rocket. When he landed he was still a young kid, only now with no parents. He was adopted and was named Clark by his new parents. Superman now leads a double life, one as Clark Kent the crime reporter, and the other as Superman the superhero. Superman understands that as an alien he is different to all the humans on Earth. He has super powers. What he doesn't understand is the way humans act sometimes. Using his powers he attempts to aid the human race fix their problems. Superman is always trying to help people and not harm them.

Superman has a wide array of superpowers. Some people may even argue that he is the ultimate superhero. His powers include: Super strength, Fast flying, x-ray vision, heat vision, telescopic vision, acute hearing, wide variety of languages, and rear invincibility. In addition to his Super powers he also has specially designed suits that all differ. Each has its own use, from breathing in space, to flying faster than light speed, or even breathing under water. Although Superman appears to be an unstoppable force, he does have the ability to be hurt, he can bleed or even be bruised. It is also possible to kill Superman, it would take quite a bomb but nevertheless it is possible. Another thing that can really set Superman back is kryptonite. It is part of the remains of his home planet, Krypton. Just like everyone else from Krypton, kryptonite will weaken, or with a large amount kill him. Superman's only defense against this lethal weapon is lead. Although it may seem to be a great idea for Superman to always have lead with him, it impairs his x-ray vision. The most deadly thing of all to Superman is magic. He has no defense against it. Magic just like to any human, can harm, and or kill him.

Superman is a true hero because he never put himself first. Despite his impressive list of super powers and gadgets, he never used them for evil, only ever for good. He has never harmed an innocent person, but has still managed to rid the earth of many villains in his time. Some of the moments that truly make Superman a hero are: Defeating Lex Luthor and Darkseid. He may not have killed them, but he prevented them from doing damage to others. This was always his goal. Although these are probably two of Superman's most famous victories, they aren't the ones that are the most important to me. The most important thing to me was when Doomsday defeated him. Not only did he lose the fight, but he also died. However he didn't remain dead; he came right back to serve the Earth again. This shows his true character, and his true love for his cause, the humans. Another important moment for me was when he unofficially retired as a superhero. This was called Kingdom Come. He only retired because there was a rise of new superheroes that could be trusted to defend the planet while he rested. Once again this showed how Superman genuinely cared about the Earth and its people. If Superman had chosen to uses his super powers for evil and not for good, the Earth would most likely be run but a collaboration of villains.

On a personal level Superman relates to me every day. When I see Superman out of his uniform, I see a totally average human just like me. When he puts that uniform on however, it's all about other people. To me the way Superman uses his power truly relates to me. I always feel like I have the power to control a group in a positive or negative way. Lots of the time I choose the wrong path, the negative one. When I look at Superman I only ever see the one positive side. He is always using those super powers he possesses for the greater good of others, and not to hurt them. If I could live the rest of my life acting constantly for the good of other I think I would be able to compare myself with Superman one day. For me when I make decisions sometimes I unconsciously think what would I do if I were Superman? This is one way I have chosen to alter my life in a positive way. He also represents the imperfections in every person in the world. He shows us that if he, a superhero who appears unbeatable, is in reality not perfect, that we should have no expectation to be perfect ourselves. Superman inspires people around the world, but I will always have a close connection to him because of how he relates to me.

Superman is a hero that will never be forgotten by anyone in the world because of his actions, but also what he chooses not to do. When Superman saves an innocent person from danger, or even help a woman in distress, he always has the best intentions in mind. Superman always uses his powers for good and never for evil. Although he is an alien he does have mortal qualities, he does have flaws. He represents a weakness in everybody. We all owe Superman a huge thank you for everything he has done.
