Ninety-two percent of teen girls in the U.S. want to change some aspect of their physical appearance. Tyra Banks was once part of this statistic; she stated that she used to call herself a “tall beanpole freak” and never considered herself beautiful. When she was young, Tyra admits that her classmates would call her “Olive Oil, Lightbulb Head, and Fivehead, because my forehead was so big.” Despite the fact that she was teased about her physical appearance growing up, Tyra blossomed into one of the world’s most successful supermodels. Today she helps millions of young women become more self-confident. She also helps children in need, animals and the environment. Tyra feels very strongly about education and how important it is. Tyra Banks’ caring nature and passion about education make her stand out as a good role model. For all these reasons, I consider her my hero.

Tyra Banks is caring in many ways. Tyra is promoting a line of greeting cards for children and families. This organization is dedicated to helping abused and abandoned kids. The fact that Tyra is involved with an organization that helps children in troubled environments once again displays her compassion. Tyra Banks is inspirational in many ways. She has a kind heart and does not believe in animal testing. Tyra Banks is also earth friendly and athletic. What is truly inspirational about Tyra is how she broke down racial barriers in the modeling world. She was one of the first African American supermodels. In fact, Tyra was the first African American woman on the cover of Sports Illustrated. Even though Tyra has made strides in the modeling industry she once said, "It's long overdue that black models receive the same benefits as white models." In addition to her work and modeling, Tyra has also established camps for girls. These camps are aimed at helping young women with their low self esteem, gaining self confidence and to make women comfortable in their own skin. “Self-love has very little to do with how you feel about your outer self. It's about accepting all of yourself. You've got to learn to accept the fool in you as well as the part that's got it going' on”-Tyra Banks. She inspires me and many others.

Tyra Banks is caring and inspirational. Her extensive work with various charities, including Yéle Haiti Foundation and Dream Foundation, display her considerate nature and her willingness to help others in need. While her charity work is motivating in of itself, her role in the modeling industry has been truly inspiring. Tyra Banks was able to overcome racial obstacles and be the first to appear on the cover of several magazines. Tyra Banks has worked hard to achieve her status and uses her position to make a difference for people less fortunate. The fact that Tyra is so compassionate about helping others should be an inspiration to people to help others in anyway they can.
