She was only seventy-five pounds. Her bones were the most prominent feature of her body. It was the closest to 0% body fat that most ever see. She was sick and needed help- that help was on the way. Tyra Banks wants to save those who feel they must look this way in order to obtain acceptance. She has made women and teen girls alike feel less insecure about what they think are their flaws in her pursuit to “Be the Change” in the world.

Banks has helped young girls get overeating disorders detrimental to health. The Tyra Show deals with many different types of them such as “ENDO’s, trance eating, anorexia, bulimia, chewing, spitting, and eating paper.” These people are extremely insecure and have low confidence. Her show even airs on the CW. She teaches girls to live and radiate with confidence. This helps girls with similar disorders know that they can get help and are not alone.

Also, Tyra has powerful influence that shows the world that models don’t always have to be thin. In her show, watched by many women of all ages, she talked about the fashion industry honestly and said that in America’s Next Top Model, a show about modeling competition that she launched, she encouraged models that weren’t as thin as “industry standard.” ANTM used to be exclusively extraordinarily tall and thin girls but has now diversified to plus sized models and models under 5’ 7” tall along with those tall thin girls. “I am committed to expanding the definitions of beauty which includes ALL shapes, sizes, and proportions; from skinny to curvy and everything in between.” This statement brought cries of joy to from those listening to this speech and gives women more confidence. This is a part of what Tyra’s BIO Campaign is all about.

The BIO Campaign greatly changes the perception of beauty around the board. BIO stands for “Beauty Inside Out” Tyra asks the world to make a pledge to expand their definitions on beauty. This makes people stop and look at their own views and become more open to a variety of looks. In her BIO Campaign speech, again she speaks of the importance of looking at different kinds of beauty and empowering young women to believe in themselves.

Tyra truly influences the feelings of young women and girls giving them the security that they have craved. This empowerment is inspiring to all and is an outstanding example of the steps Tyra has took to be the change in the world.
