A Hero is a person who helps people in danger or does something for people. A Hero is a person who doesn’t care about danger and does everything to reach his goal. Everybody has one or more heroes. Almost all people want do something like their hero did. For me, my hero lived a long time ago, and he saved my country Viet Nam in the war with Mongols. He is Tran Hung Dao.

Tran Hung Dao (1228-1300) was the Vietnamese military Grand Commander and Grand Duke of Thang Long during the Tran Dynasty. He is revered as a national hero. He was a general of VN in battle with the Mongols. Mongolia was a part of China and they fought to get freedom from China and then they wanted the land of Vietnam. He fought the Mongols because he wanted freedom for VN. He wanted the people from another country to get out of the land of VN. For that reason, he trained his soldiers to fight and assembled more soldiers to protect his country.

The enemy had weapons (sword, spear) which were more modern than Vietnamese weapons. Yet the Vietnamese fought the Mongols and they won. After the second battle, the Vietnamese people lacked food and most soldiers were wounded or tired from the battle. But Tran Hung Dao knew what to do. He made his soldiers feel better after every battle. He told them about their family and what they were doing for their country. And finally he defeated the Mongols.

When the war ended, the Emperor of VN gave him a lot of gold. The Vietnamese were thankful to him, because he saved VN three times. His name was written in VN’s history. And in some places in VN, people worship him like god.

He became the hero because he helped the armies of VN become stronger and brought peace to VN. He made the Vietnamese unite in the time of danger.
