Taryn Davis

by Rebecca from Collingwood

Taryn Davis was born October 13th 1985, she was just graduating college when her husband CPL Avis was killed by a roadside bomb on May 1st 2007 in Iraq at 22 years of age. She struggled with her grief and the other army wives avoided her because she represented their deepest fears. Taryn, 21, said this; "People liked to write off my grief due to my young age".

So she started a trip to drive around the country to find other young military widows to help her and find out how they go on and deal with their grief. But what started as a self healing trip started a small non-profit organization called "the American Widow Project" that is welcoming all American military widows through their healing and grieving process.

I think that one of the best things about the American Widow Project is the fact that you can communicate with them over the internet, Facebook, twitter, and their own chat room so you don't have to leave your house or your comfort zone if you're not ready to and they will help.
