If I died, I would die happy because I was doing what I wanted to do. How many people can say that? - Terry Fox

A hero to me is a man, women, or animal who stands up for what they believe in. A hero is a role model, someone loyal and trustworthy. They are also not doing good for fame or fortune, but instead because they want to help. A hero is caring and helpful. An example of a hero is Terry Fox for running across Canada with one leg to raise money for others and spread awareness of cancer. Terry Fox is my hero.

Terrance Stanley Fox or Terry Fox grew up a happy, tall, brown haired kid. When he was a teenager he got bone cancer. Because of the cancer he had to have his leg amputated 16 inches above the knee. Soon after he started the Marathon of Hope.

On April 12, 1980 Terry started his Marathon of Hope in Newfoundland, Canada. He would run 42 kilometers each day for 18 months. Sadly, he had to end on September 1st in Thunder Bay because the cancer had spread to his lungs. In the end he raised 5,000 dollars for cancer research. On June 28, 1981 Terry died at the age of 22.

When Terry died he left behind three siblings. Two brothers, Fred and Darrell, and one sister, Judith. He also left his mother Betty, and his father, Rolly. Not only did he leave his family when he died, but also all his friends from his school Mary Hill Junior High.

My hero is Terry Fox, he ran the Marathon of Hope with one leg and died with a dream to end cancer, which will hopefully come true.
