I have chosen Terrance Stanley Fox for my hero. He was born on the 28th of July, 1958 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Terry died on the 28th of June, 1981 in Thunder Bay, Ontario. He was a famous athlete because he donated his life to raising money for cancer research. Even though Terry had an artificial right leg from bone cancer, he still went on a "Marathon of Hope" by running across Canada.
Terry was raised in Port Coquitlam in British Columbia. In the 80's nobody knew very much or spoke very much about cancer and there was little research for it and everybody thought cancer was a death sentence.
Terry set the goal to run across Canada to raise money for cancer research. But Terry did not achieve his goal, he died in Thunder Bay; but he did raise 24.17 million dollars. People started to join Terry's cause when they started to hear about him.
Terry made a difference in the world by creating awareness to everyone of cancer. If Terry did not do anything we may not have been as aware of cancer and research as we are today. Terry should be remembered because he donated his life to cancer research. He influenced my life by doing something big with his life when he had cancer instead of sitting on his butt and doing nothing.
