Dr. Seuss was born on March 2, 1904 in Springfield, Massachusetts. His birth name is Theodor Seuss Geisel, but he often went by Ted. He later added "Dr." to his name for a bit of comic relief. Theodor's family owned a successful brewery, and the future Dr. Seuss grew up in the midst of a bustling, prosperous extended family. Dr. Seuss is unique because his art and literature has made a huge impact on children's lives. "Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing's going to get better. It's not." Theodor had an intense way of interpreting knowledge into a work of art viewed by children.
Dr. Seuss was not the greatest artist in the world, but his ways were very unique. By mixing interesting creations and catchy rhyming words, he was able to knock the socks off of children, parents, and teachers. Everything he drew was a masterpiece, yet a twist to the viewer. Theodor also drew advertising cartoons to support himself and his wife during the Great Depression. A writer on Earlymoments.com states, "His imaginative characters, vivid illustrations, and catchy rhymes are instantly recognizable to anyone who grew up reading his stories". Theodor is less well- known, while he worked tirelessly at his craft. He did not seek personal fame.
As well as his art, Dr. Seuss's literature is amazing and widely acknowledged. It was quoted on Earlymoment.com that "No American writer has had as great an impact on children's literature as Dr. Seuss". Theodor has published over 60 children's books along the years, all of which turning out remarkable. Dr. Seuss also had a twist to some of his writing. 'Yertle the Turtle' was written about Hitler. After some speculation, Theodor admitted that he did; in fact, base the story on Hitler and it was a direct representation of the dictator.
Dr. Seuss passed away on September 24, 1991. Although he is gone now, his legend most
certainly lives on. On March 2, 2012, Universal Studios and Illumination Entertainment released a 3-D film based upon the book "The Lorax". The Lorax was a hit to all ages. This was not the only movie produced based upon Theodor's many books. Children who grew up reading his stories now watch the latest animated movies based upon them. Theodor's legend will always be remembered.
Overall, Theodor Seuss Geisel has done many great things in his life time and has brought life to our imaginations. He has taught us that imagination does not end with daydreaming. He was and is unique because the ways his art and literature has made such a large impact on children's life's. "Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing's going to get better. It's not." Dr. Seuss will forever be remembered.
