Temple Grandin

Temple Grandin is the person I pick to be my hero for this project. I have chosen Temple because she has overcome many different obstacles in her life.

She was the only child; she didn't talk until she was almost four years old. Temple is autistic. She has made many people's lives easier, just by knowing how to treat others that are autistic. She talks to parents that have kids that are autistic. (Templegrandin.com)

When her mother took Temple to the doctor when she was littler she was diagnosed with her autism in the 1950's. They told her that she needed to be put in an institution because no one could help her. Her mom kept her, and Temple went to school and through college. (templegrandin.the.movie.com)

During college she had a hard time doing stuff in class with everyone around. She has a different way of figuring things out. (For example you say shoes and many different types of shoes in pictures will show up in her head.) So in other words she thinks in pictures.

Temple was born August 29, 1994. She is 64 years old now still living. Her favorite subject is science. Temple has received her B.A. at Franklin Pierce College and her M.S. in Animal Science at Arizona State University. She has also received her Ph.D. in Animal Science from the University of Illinois in 1989. Now Temple is an author and a speaker on the subject of autism. (www.grandin.com)
