My name is Georgina and my hero is my grandfather, Terry Hawitt. He was born on May 3rd in Saskatoon, and he was an only child. He went to school in Tisdale Saskatchewan and then Concordia University in Montreal.

I think my Grandfather is a hero because he has organized and developed a number of beautiful city parks in Calgary. These Parks are located in various parts of the city of Calgary and will certainly add to the beauty of Calgary for many years to come. Grandpa Terry started the Calgary Parks Foundation and some of the parks built are: Rouleauville Square, Jim Fish Ridge, Evamy Ridge Park, Shaw Millennium Park, and James Short Park, among others. There is a park bench in one of the parks downtown that has Grandpa Terry’s name on it and it says he can sit there 24 hours a day. This is for being the President of the Parks Foundation.

Grandpa Terry was also the President of the Calgary Zoo and organized to build the Dinosaur Park. This has given many millions of people a chance to see animals that they would never see in the wild and as well it gives people the chance to learn about dinosaurs. The Zoo is one of my favourite places to spend time.

Grandpa Terry likes to take my cousins and me to the Zoo to see all of the exciting exhibits and animals. I feel very proud every time we go because I know how much I enjoy being there, so everyone else that goes must feel the same way. It is always fun to know that Grandpa Terry and his volunteer efforts have made other people's lives a little bit better.

My Grandpa Terry is a hero to me because he has thought of the future of Calgary and has considered the beauty of the parks and their importance. The parks are beautiful to look at and visit but it enables Calgarians to go to places that make them happy. He did all this work as a volunteer, so he did not get paid. This makes Terry Hawitt a Hero to me.
