"Heroes are made by the paths they choose and the powers they are graces with" (Ashton). As Ashton says, a hero uses their mind and "powers" to help the people of the world. Tim McGraw has both of those traits but especially a power with his voice. Tim McGraw was born on May 1st, 1967 in beautiful Delhi, Louisiana. He grew up with the hardship of having a single mom and a professional baseball player for a dad. With a dad who was a professional baseball player Tim had to grow up with him being gone for most of his childhood. Tim had a difficult family situation from all of his friends but that didn't stop him from becoming "One of the most popular country music singers in the 1990's and early 2000's" (McGraw, Tim). In addition, Tim has had a successful career in country music and was even awarded many Grammys for his inspiring music. Tim McGraw also has a kind heart by providing wounded military veterans with free homes. Tim McGraw is deserving of the title hero because not only is he an influential singer and songwriter who shares himself with the world, but a generous humanitarian who feels a duty to help others.
Tim McGraw uses his talented voice to influence people all around the world. When McGraw was asked about his song writing, he said "There's a lot of people who can pick up a guitar and sing you a great song, but there are very few people that can tell you how they feel" (Tim McGraw Biography). McGraw is saying anyone can write a song, but you yourself have to feel before others can feel. It takes more than writing a few words and putting a beat to it; it takes truth in what you write for people to feel your words. Another way Tim is inspirational is expressed in his biography about his father. The article states "In August 2004, McGraw released the album Live Like Were Dying. Its title song, penned by Nashville songwriters Craig Wiseman and Tim Nichols, was a tribute to his father, who had died of brain cancer in January 2004" (McGraw, Tim). Tim's tribute to his father was inspiring because it showed the world and his father that he loved him and that he was proud of his dad for trying to beat cancer and enjoy life to the fullest. This is an example of a person who feels love for his family and uses music and words to convey his feelings towards others. Anyone who would make an album for his or her father is an influential and heart-felt person. McGraw is an influencing man for how he writes and sings his songs and how he puts his heart and soul into them.
McGraw is not only a singer, songwriter, and family man, but a humanitarian as well. McGraw shows his generosity by donating to various different charities and helping wounded war veterans get on their feet again. When the "Look to the Stars" website discusses McGraw's charity work, they say "The Tug McGraw Foundation raises fund to enhance the quality of life of children and adults with brain tumors; Tim hosted a charity poker tournament to benefit the foundation" (Tim McGraw Charity). The article shows that McGraw is generous because he helps with his father's foundation and donates money to help the children and grownups that are part of the charity. Not only has McGraw started a foundation for people with brain tumors, he also helps fund it and hold events to sponsor it. Another way to display Tim's generosity is when he was asked about his project with Operation Home front, he said, "Being able to reward them for their dedicated work with a new home will be even more rewarding for us. It feels so good to give back to them and to have the opportunity to entertain them on Memorial Day is something I am honored to do" (Tim McGraw). McGraw is a very generous man for giving mortgage free homes to our veterans. Costing him and Operation Home Front a good deal of money, thereby changed the lives of many families across the country by providing them with shelter and warmth. Tim McGraw often gives his own money to benefit others, which displays his generosity and concern for others.
Tim McGraw has accomplished more than most people, but what makes him inspirational is how he has demonstrated generosity, kindness, and love for others. "McGraw supports the Muhammad Ali Parkinson Center and The David Foster Foundation, which helps families of children in need of organ transplants" (Tim McGraw Charity). By helping charities and foundations with troubled children, McGraw shows his compassion and kindness. As Tim sees it, he is "feeling like he is really hitting his prime" and he is "Only getting better and has a lot more headroom to go" (Tim McGraw). This statement is supposed to be about how he can sing and produce platinum albums, but it really is about driving to help people with not only his magical voice but his kind and generous heart. So when you think about Tim McGraw, just remember that his used his "graced powers" for the good of helping other people take the right path.
