Tygert Pennington

by Mariana from Cali, Colombia

This writing is about heroes and why they are heroes to me. So, I am going to explain about my hero. You are going to read about Tygert Pennington. You will see who he is, why he is my hero, what he works in and finally my conclusion. I hope you like it.

My hero is Tygert Pennington. He was born in Atlanta, Georgia, on October 19 and he is 45 years old. He is an American television host, model, philanthropist, and carpenter. But he is most notable for being the host of Extreme Makeover Home Edition which airs in ABC in the US. Ty got interested in wood working when he was 12 and built a tree house in his neighborhood with some kids. He was diagnosed with ADHD Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder when he was a kid and it is primarily characterized by co-existence of intentional problems and hyperactivity, and this behavior appears frequently.

Ty Pennington is my hero because he went to several charities in his life, like when he went to Hawaii to spend time with a volunteer group which helps kids with disabilities to learn how to surf and learn other water sports. After that he said that he has been to Hawaii 6 times and this was the first time he understood the meaning of aloha. Tygert also participated in a celebrity soccer match as part of a fundraiser for the Los Angeles Children's Hospital, benefiting bone marrow transplant patients. Also because he works in a TV show called Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, in which each episode shows a family that has faced some recent natural disaster or economic problem in which they can’t re-build their houses and give them a better life.

Tygert, as we know, has been in many places and worked in many shows and made a do-it-yourself guide home improvement book called “Ty's Tricks: Home Repair Secrets Plus Cheap and Easy Projects to Transform Any Room”. He has worked on TV many times and worked on a film called “Living Las Vegas” in 1995. Tygert was a carpenter in a show called “Trading Spaces” in TLC. He is not only a host or appears on TV, he is also a model. He traveled all around the world modeling with Swatch, J. Crew and Sprit. Then he appeared on TV spots for Macy’s, Diet Coke, Levi’s and Bayer.

Ty is a really great person because he has done many charities for poor people and kids that have some diseases, and I really admire him. I hope I can meet him someday and be with him doing charitable work or just having some fun time with him.
