Tupac Shakur

by Lindsey from New York

I recently started listening to rap music.  I decided to start listening to Tupac Shakur and ever since, I have only listened to his music.  I think that his songs are very inspiring because they have meaning.  Most rappers today, don't add any meaning to their songs, instead they choose to right about unimportant things.  Most songs today have to do with money, drugs, fighting etc.  When I listen to the lyrics in Tupac's music I can hear that instead of focusing on money, drugs, etc. he focuses on things more important in life.  I came across the song "Keep Ya Head Up" by Tupac which I found very heartfelt.  In the song one of the lines he says is, "I know it seems hard sometimes but remember one thing.  Through every dark night, there's a bright day after that.  So no matter how hard it get, stick your chest out, keep ya head up....and handle it."  In the song he also takes about how women are treated in society. Another quote from the song, "Keep Ya Head Up" is "Got our name from a woman and our game from a woman. I wonder why we take from our women. Why do we rape our women, do we hate our women?"

When I think about Tupac Shakur I always think about everything he has gone through and that if he's gone through that much, I can go through it.  Tupac Shakur always reminds me to keep my head up and stay strong no matter what happens.  I think in a way, whether someone likes rap music or hates rap, if they spend time to listen to some of Tupac's lyrics in his music and actually listens to it, anyone can like it.  Tupac Shakur's music truly is poetry.  When people hear the name Tupac Shakur they think of just another rapper, when I think of Tupac I think of a strong man, and poet.  Lastly, I'd like to say, Rest In Peace Tupac Shakur.
