Terry Fox

by Rachel from Barrie

"I'm not doing the run to become rich or famous!"

Terry Fox was a very inspiring person and has changed so many people's lives from cancer. That's why Terry Fox is my hero! Terry Fox's birthday is on July 29th, 1958 in Winnipeg Manitoba. Terry Fox went to school at Simon Fraser University. That's why Terry Fox is my hero!

Terry Fox has 3 other siblings. He has an older brother named Fred, a younger brother named Barrel and a younger sister named Judith. Terry's mother's name is Betty Fox and a father is named Rolly Fox.

Terry Fox was never good at grade 8 basketball, but one day he decided to try out for the basketball team. Terry didn't make it so his coach told him to try out for the cross country team. Terry never liked to run but he still tried out. When the cross country season was over he tried out for the basketball team again and then his coach made him the captain of the basketball team!

While Terry Fox was in the hospital to get his leg amputated he had to stay in the children's area. There were just these little kids that had cancer and almost about to die, and Terry had this great idea to run across Canada and help raise money for cancer.

Terry Fox had to go through lots of obstacles like getting his leg amputated, running across Canada in the freezing cold rain and snow, and also having trouble breathing while he was running. Terry also had to run while people were honking at him on the side of the road and almost getting hit my cars on the road.

When Terry was going through all these obstacles he just kept running, but one day Terry had to stop running because he was having trouble breathing so he went to the doctors, turns out Terry had lung cancer.

Terry changed the whole world by raising money for cancer. Terry Fox saved lots of people from dying from cancer. We can never say thank you enough. Terry's dream will always stay with us!

Terry Fox influences me because he had to go through cancer in his leg and like 5 people in my family have also died from cancer and it's amazing that he made it that far, Terry tried something that nobody would ever try again just to save lives.
