Tracy McGrady is my hero! Tracy McGrady grew up calling two people mom, one of them was his actual mother and the other was his grandmother. His father left the family right after his 16-year-old girl friend (Tracy's mother) had Tracy. Then his mother moved to Auburndale Florida so his grandmother could take care of him half the time and his mother the other half. Tracy began playing organized sports at the age of seven. He played baseball, basketball, and football. By the time he entered Auburndale High School his major focus was basketball. Although McGrady put up impressive numbers in high school he barely stayed academically eligible. College did not pursue him although he averaged 23.1 points and 12.2 rebounds per game as a junior. Before his senior year colleges and scouts were amazed by his abilities at a high profile summer basketball camp. Here is why Tracy is really a hero.

When I was 10 years old I used to go to basketball players web-sites and get their e-mail addresses so I could communicate with them. Tracy McGrady was the only player who emailed me, 2 weeks later I got an actual response from him asking me about my basketball teams, inquiring how I'm doing and telling me what he was doing in the off-season. We kept e-mailing for a couple months, and that really meant a lot to me. That's when I realized what a great guy he was to go out of his way to e-mail a young kid.

Since Tracy has been playing in the National Basketball Association he has started many charitable foundations. He started an organization that helps enhance the lives of needy kids and help their education. He also won the NBA Off-Court All-star award that is given to players who show leadership on and off the court. The Tracy Mcgrady Foundation has made contributions to many non-profit organizations including the Special Olympics, and the Boys and Girls clubs of America.

Every Christmas Mcgrady plays Santa Clause at his annual Toys-R-Us shopping spree. At this shopping spree he brings lots of kids to Toys-R-Us so they can pick many presents for themselves and Tracy buys them all for the kids. Tracy's 2009 annual Celebrity Softball game raised $150,000 for a renovation of a schools new library and technology center. To start off that weekend his organization held an auction and all the items were donated by Tracy. The auction raised $35,000.

Tracy Mcgrady a true hero. He is so charitable, and a real role model.
