Terrell Owens

by Brett from Williamsville

Terrell Owens was a great man because when Owens started to play for the 49ers his grandmother got sick. Owens was not happy about this so he gave a lot of money to his grandmother so she could get better. But sadly, his grandmother died in Owens' third year. This is why Owens is a hero.

Terrell Owens had a bad childhood. Owens was born on December 7, 1973 in Alexander City, Alabama. Owens was raised by his mother, Marilyn Herd with his grandmother, Alice Black. Alice was very strict. She only let the family leave the house for school and church so that's what made Owens not very social. Most of Owens' bad childhood was because he got bullied in high school.

Owens was good at what he did. Owens got drafted to the San Francisco 49ers in 1996. He played for the 49ers for 8 years and in those 8 years Owens met his hero, Jerry Rice. Rice broke 8 records and got MVP in Super Bowl XXLL. After Owens' 8 years with the 49ers, he went to the Eagles for two years (2004-2006). Owens did alright with the Eagles. He scored 20 touchdowns. Owens said in an interview that the Philadelphia Eagles would be better if they had Green Bay Packers Quarterback, Brett Favre. Owens claimed, later, that it was a compliment to Favre but many people saw it as an insult to McNabb. After that, Owens went to the Dallas Cowboys for three years (2006-2009). He signed a contract with Dallas for $25 Million. Owens did well but he could have done better. He scored 38 touchdowns during those years with Dallas. Then, he went to the Buffalo Bills for one year (2009). He had 5 touchdowns and the longest catch was 98 yards. After one year with the Bills, Owens was traded to the Cincinnati Bengals (2010). Owens scored 9 touchdowns and he had 983 yards. Owens broke one record while he was a Bengal, he had the most yardage. Even though Owens has played for many teams, he always contributes a lot to whatever team he is a member of.

Owens did a lot for the community. About every week Owens would give half of the money he made per week to his grandmother so she could get better. But sadly, Alice Black, Owens grandmother died in his third year in the NFL. And every year Owens would give money to Metallic Autographs Education Program. As you can see, Owens did a lot for the community.

Owens was bullied in high school. Owens got bullied because he was not social. After football on the way home, Owens fell asleep on the bus with his mouth open so a kid spit in his mouth. Owens was really angry. Owens had a choice to make. He could either be really angry or use it as a motivation to be a better football player. Owens decided to use it as a motivation. That is how Owens got bullied. Owens was a superstar at football. He was on five different teams. Everyone wanted Owens on their team but the Bills were lucky to get him. Owens is a five time Pro Bowler and he received MVP once. Owens is a great hero and is a good example to show kids how to play football. Owens has many qualities that helped him become successful. Every time Owens got on that field, he was thinking of his grandmother. Imagine if you were a football player, and you practiced ALL WEEK long until Sunday or Monday. Then you're back at work to get ready for the next game. Owens was so brave because when his grandmother got sick he had to be brave and hope his grandmother would get better. These are Owens' qualities.

The important lesson I learned from Owens is to never put your head down. If you are in the Pro's usually you get really greedy and obsessed with power. Owens did not get obsessed with his power. This is the lesson I learned from Owens.

Owens is a hero to me because he broke a record and he is a FIVE TIME PRO BOWLER. He received the Pro Bowl MVP once. Terrell Owens is a hero.
