Timothy

by Kayla from Billings

My hero is my cousin Timothy. He is my hero for his courage, humor, and perseverance. He not only overcomes challenges, but he does it with a smile on his face and a positive attitude. Nothing can stand in his way, not even cancer.

In the early spring of 2009, Timothy got cancer throughout his body. But after multiple treatments, his body was and still is cancer free. The risks are high; doctors say if it comes back within the next two years, he has only 95% chance of being able to fight it. But if the cancer doesn't come back, it will most likely won't ever come back. Timothy keeps a positive attitude and this is just one of the reasons he is my hero.

I've looked up to Timothy ever since I was a little girl, as where my little brother looked up to Timothy's brother, Dustin. Both Timothy and Dustin would play with us when we were younger. I remember one time when my little brother asked Dustin what his favorite color was. To my brother's enjoyment, they both seemed to favor the color red. So then I asked Timothy what his favorite was. Of course, his wasn't pink, but I went ahead anyway and told him my favorite color was blue, just so I could be like him.

I also remember the days we played soccer in my grandparent's basement. Timothy loves soccer, and he plays amazingly well too. I loved the way he could direct the ball in any direction he wanted, always in total control, and showing me all the tricks he could do. I enjoyed watching him play, and playing with him; I was inspired and decided that soccer was my favorite sport too. Before Timothy's cancer, he was planning on a sports scholarship to college. I hope that once he has made a full recovery, he can go out and accomplish just that. Soccer is his life, and his talent.

Timothy also has a passion for thrills. His whole family goes out to Cedar Point in Sandusky, Ohio every few years. After high school, his parents took Timothy and Dustin again to celebrate graduation. I was lucky enough to be able to tag along. That day in the is one I will never forget. Riding coasters from opening to closing and spending the day with my two cousins, aunt, and uncle. I couldn't ask for anything better, only the chance to some day do it all again.

I will forever look up to my cousin. I think he is an inspiration to everyone, proving that not matter what happens in your life, you can get through with a smile on your face, and have fun till the end.
